Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, has dismissed reports claiming that she condemned the recent suspension of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen. Aisha Buhari made this known in a statement through her Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna, describing the news making rounds as fake . She also advised the purveyors of such news to recant and desist henceforth from spreading such untrue stories
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that, ”The attention of wife of the president has been drawn to a post on social media to the effect that she condemned the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria,” the statement read. ”It is important to inform Nigerians that wife of the president has not made any public statements on the matter and therefore the commentary is untrue and fake. “This is highly condemnable and we therefore advise the purveyors of such news to recant and desist henceforth.”
The former CJN was suspended by the Federal Government following a recommendation of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The suspension order was executed to enable the tribunal to hear and determine the allegations of false asset declarations filed against Onnoghen by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has warned against foreign interference into the nation’s affairs, capable of creating apprehension, distrust among citizens or undermining the transparency and acceptability of outcomes of the nation’s electoral process. This is contained in a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the president on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Saturday, January 26.
The statement was a reaction to comments made by the United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (U.S.A.) and the European Union, over the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, January 25.
