To say Nigerians are happy with the election results by INEC would be to say a lie. There have been strong insinuations that the elections was rigged in favour of the ruling party. But that will have to be proven by the law courts, assuming the PDP has enough evidence to prove that allegation. The PDP won 18 states, while the APC won 19 states.
However. baring all those factors, INEC declared incumbent President Buhari as the winner in the 2019 elections, at about 4 am today. While many Nigerians are saying on social media that ‘Nigerians have voted, and INEC has decided’, in an election that was marred with violence, deaths, arson, kidnapping, intimidation and thuggery.
This presidential elections has put a dent on the reputation of INEC as a credible electoral body. It has also decimated the fate of Nigerians in the credibility and usefulness in coming out to even vote in elections, when at the end of the day, it will not be credible.
We may not know the consequences of this elections until weekend of March 9th when the governorship elections are meant to hold, as we may witness even lower voter turnout.
Nigerians abroad, and indeed all Nigerians are insisting that the only way forward, is the use of electronic voting for elections in the near future.
What do you think about this election?
